from House                                                                                                                 Luke Lozier

iced
      eaves
              advance
before diffident sun

shadow the terrace
eclipse the last

Ipe planks
              Adirondacks
rockers
          cheap chaises
none
       shield the gusting

shellback chairs
provoke his abandon
gelid
uncomfortable

through glass doors
a warmer scene
brightness
screens

a mother's pekoe
tepid crime tv
omnipresent maladroit
daughter's qwerty

a boy brickmaster
duct tapes plates
to the wall
building out not up

entering the house
fogged glasses
brain sweats
digital buzzing

a dogs clicking feet
                           crescendo
                     attic
             stairs in a comical skate

ungripped
by the latest from Billund
the boy tugs a shirt —
begs to go outside
and the dog
follows ecstatic

as they bundle up for the harsh
